Guiding Rules for Quality Catalog Design

The catalog printing technology is continuously developing and advancing. This is due to the ever increasing demand for better design and better quality catalog materials. Aside from employing up-to-date printing technology, catalog printing also follows design rules which are created and tested by catalog designers to be effective in producing high impact catalogs for any requirements.
Designing High Impact Catalogs
The design rules created for catalogs are generally accepted and are employed widely by catalog printing providers. But although these rules are generally accepted there would still be some exceptions to it. Here are some of the rules in creating good catalog design:
A good design rule in catalog printing is to place your strongest design element on the upper right corner of the spread. The rationale behind this is that people would usually tend to glance at the upper right corner of catalogs. So if ever you have a product that you want to give full attention place it on the upper right side corner of the spread.
Catalogs are designed for reading so make sure that you use fonts that are readable. Make use of font style and size that are legible. If you are to use smaller text make sure that they are not smaller than 7.5 or else your readers will have to use a magnifying lens just to read the descriptions on your catalogs. Use the same font in different sizes, colors and weights to show hierarchy of importance.
It is true that people tend to easily recognize catalogs that possess consistent layout and design. However a dose of the same thing often becomes more of a bore. In order to remove the monotony in your catalogs it would be best to mix up spread designs this will spice up your catalogs and will keep the interest of your customers.
When it comes to catalog formats, standard formats are still your best option. Not only because they are affordable but more of their flexibility to fit any type of customer s environment. The only drawback of this type of formats (especially when it is not professional done) is the fact that they are often deem as plain and boring.
Unique formats are great in attracting attention. Just what are unique formats? Unique formats may mean oversize formats which are created in such a way to make them even more noticeable. As a reminder before deciding on employing unique formats for your catalogs it would be a good idea to consult with your printer first so that you will know how much it will cost.
Catalogs presented in four colors are better in generating sales since they easily grab the attention of customers.
These rules are provided only as a guide and thus not call for strict compliance. If you feel that you have a much better and effective method of designing catalogs then feel free to employ them for your catalog printing.
